"Then Jesus said, "Come to me, all of you who are weary and carry heavy burdens and I will give you rest." (Matthew 11:28 NLT)
Waiting - it seems like we all seem to have been waiting a lot lately. Waiting for something new - school, graduation, job, wedding, baby to name a few. Waiting to be able to travel, be with family, take a break - a different kind of waiting. Or, for some of us, waiting to get not only better but our strength back. The waiting for the surgery, medicine working, is finally over but "waiting" is still happening making us very "weary." It makes us feel like we are carrying a "heavy burden." Jesus is talking about praising, thanking, God for several things happening one of which is talking about knowing God. Verse 27 reminds us God knowing the Son (Jesus) and Jesus knowing the Father (God) and all things "have been committed to me by the Father." Then Jesus adds "come to me" and promises "rest." In the next verse he is asking us to "learn from me" (v. 29) even as we still "find rest for our souls." What a wonderful way to remind us of Emmanuel -- God with us!! Yes, we are "weary" and we do feel like we "carry heavy burdens" - especially as Caregivers. Yes, we can also feel the "rest" as we "learn." We too, even as Caregivers, can be thanking and praising God.
