Strength for the journeyThere are so many resources available, for Caregivers, now. When I became our Dad's primary care giver, almost 20 years ago now, there wasn't really any support or even information. It was talked about a lot by a lot of people some of whom were knowledgeable. Many even agreed the Caregiver needed support and to make sure to have selfcare - physical, mental and emotional. I, personally, also recognize the need to include Spiritual in the list for selfcare.
Now, however, even in the rural area I serve there are all kinds of resources available - for both the care receiver and the care giver. A check, online, will find most (if not all) of them in your area. Meanwhile I still encourage Caregivers to keep their FOCUS and to take care of themselves. There are a couple of resources, that I can suggest, for our people. Those of us taking care of loved ones can be checking with state and local agencies. There are a number of organizations through various denominations and local hospitals. Doing some research would help provide names and phone numbers. Like me I am sure you have also seen a number of agencies advertised on TV, in magazines , etc. These pages will, prayerfully, help each (and all) of us to keep our eyes on Christ, gather strength, and (especially) enjoy the laughter that keeps us from screaming. |
More Strength for the journeyLife has been described as a "journey." This part of the resource page will have links, and tips, to help give each of us the strength for the journey, of life, we are now on.
Time with God, daily, is one of the best ways to have the "strength" for the journey. A few minutes a day is both difficult and helpful.
