"Then from the cloud came a voice that said, "This is my Son, my Chosen, listen to him!" (Luke 9:35)
Which transformer did you just think of? I know I have fun stories about Optimus Prime (my son) and Bumble Bee (a grandson). I'm thinking of a different "transformer" right now, though. I'm thinking about people who changed at least their world (if not the whole world) for the better. People like Florence Nightingale and Clara Barton. OR Martin Luther King, Jr. and Rosa Parks who, at the very least, started the changes. Now....who do you think of? The Gospel reading, this morning, is about the Transfiguration - Jesus on the mountain with Elijah and Moses. He has taken Peter, James and John with him. All four men are very tired because, as usual, there has been a lot going on. Jesus has taken them with him "up onto a mountain to pray." (v. 28) Spend time with God and renew their strength. Peter, our friend who speaks first and thinks later, has offered to build "shelters." (v. 33) While Peter is speaking " cloud appeared and covered them." (v. 34) The voice points out who Jesus is and tells them "to LISTEN" - verse 35 emphasis mine. These three men, may not have said anything when they first came down the mountain (v. 36) but they certainly transformed the world after the resurrection . They DID listen and followed where God directed them to go, doing what God was calling them to do. The question is....are we following and doing? Mark Batterson has a quote: "Show me the size of your dream and I will show you the size of your God." (It is in several of his books - starting with IF.) I know we are Caregivers. We are working on changing "our world" every day. We are just as tired as Peter, James and John. We can probably come up with some interesting ideas - just like Peter did. But are we listening to what God is calling us to do? Are we following where God is leading?
