"Courage is not having the strength to go on; it is going on when you don't have the strength." Theodore Roosevelt
So many things happening, and changing, so fast it is hard to keep up let alone make the needed changes. It is happening to, for and with, all of us but it seems to especially "hit" caregivers. This is probably because it not only affects us it also affects our care receivers and our families -- just to add to the stress! There are times when "going on" means taking care of one thing at a time. There is a song I remember, from years ago, "One Day at a Time." It is a prayer asking for Jesus to help us get through "one day at a time." Sometimes, however, "one day" is too big a chunk. We just need to get through what we are doing right NOW. We need to remember Emmanuel, God IS with us, as we continue to "do." We need to be gentle in our "self" talk to remind ourselves of God's presence and Love. Theodore Roosevelt is also encouraging us with how to keep "going on." We need to keep moving forward, keep trying again and, especially keep taking care of ourselves.
